How to entertain 7 active kids in October

7 active Grand kids screaming and crazy and one Grandma trying to figure out how to quiet them down and here is my formula for October. You will need the following:

  • Pumpkins
  • Water based paints
  • Paint brushes or torn egg cartons to act as brushes
  • Paper bags under each pumpkin spread out over a table
  • Glue
  • Cheerios
  • Glitter
  • Baby jars for water
  • Lots of paper towels for clean up
  • Patience–lots and lots

Now the fun begins.
The 4 year old opened a large bottle of blue paint and poured it all over his pumpkin. The 3 year old found a small bottle of orange food dye that happened to be in the bag of paints. We tore up egg cartons to use as a “paint brush” because we did not have enough brushes. I managed to remove a pumpkin carving knife in time before the 5 year old just started to stab his pumpkin. Now double checking all items from the paint/brushes bags all was safe.

If you paint the pumpkin and not carve it it could last up to Thanksgiving in some cases. Here are photos of the artists at work.

Decorating pumpkins

My little pumpkins and their pumpkin

This actually filled almost 2 full hours. 45 minutes on the pumpkins, 30 minutes fighting over the color black and also red (for blood they said) and the rest on clean up. But we had a lot of fun!!

Note the blue on the shirt.

The older kids coming up with their design.

One finished pumpkin. Happy Decorating.

And happy cleanup (the orange is food dye...which luckily washed off).
