Today, Friday, 6/8 Casa De Amparo (a resource for battered women and children) will be hosting a large event at it’s new San Marcos Campus designed just for kids. It is a private grand opening so to you who will be lucky to attend I still want to celebrate a great gain from the 34 years of hard work and energy that has allowed for this new 11.4 acre Casa Kids Campus. 400 invited guests (many who made this campus possible) will be in attendance along with members of the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers will be there to dedicate the NFL’s Ed Block Courage House Network to help prevent Child Abuse.

When I was working for the Carlsbad School District 34 years ago Casa became a refuge for the many abused and battered women I met and referred the to Casa.  It was then a small operation with a big heart and could only hold a limited number of women and children so the donations of locals and sponsors helped this keen resource grow to what it is today outgrowing it’s Oceanside shelter and now has the San Marcos extension campus. This campus can provide residences for 30 children ages 6 to 17 in three “cottages” according to the San Diego Union.

Outside of the cottages  are lots of activities for the children which include a basketball court, playing field, walking paths and a garden. School, recreation, art, therapy and specialized counselors are on staff at the campus to help the children.

This campus in San Marcos has enough land to continue to expand with your help and donations.
