Christmas in July Tomorrow and Sunday-July 14-15

Old Mission San Luis Rey, 4070 Mission Avenue in Oceanside (east of I-5) from 9am to 5pm this Saturday and Sunday where over  150 Artists and crafts and food booths for the annual Christmas in July Festival. Below is a quote from their website along with their url for more info:

An annual shopping extravaganza, Christmas in July   draws thousands of people each year. Offering handmade arts and   craft items (many with Christmas themes) by over 150 artisans, the event   also includes a rummage sale, bake sale,  food court raffle, kid’s activity area and live entertainment.

The event dates back to 1977, when the parents and   staff of Old Mission Montessori School organized a jams and jellies   sale, and has developed into the school’s major fundraiser, providing   $60,000-80,000 per year to supplement tuition at Mission San Luis Rey Parish’s parochial school.

This year’s fair dates are Saturday, July 14th, and Sunday, July   15th, 2012.   The fair hours for the public are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. and   will once again be held under the trees on the beautiful grounds of the   historic Mission San Luis Rey Parish.  Our address is 4070 Mission Ave,   Oceanside, CA 92057.


Madagascar hissing cockroach

As a child did you ever experience the joy of trapping an insect in a jar  like the Madagascar hissing cockroach above, with holes in the lid and marvel at the little critter? I know I did and I also let it go the next day. But now you can have your grand children learn that same joy and how to do it correctly by going to the San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas Insect Festival and go to for more info. Insect Festival 2012 July 14 and 15 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

This one-of-a-kind event features thousands of fascinating creepy-crawlies including live insects, lizards, snakes, and the famous “Madagascar hissing cockroaches.” Children can practice bug collecting, hands-on insect arts and crafts, and even taste cooked mealworm larva (in various flavors such as mesquite, teriyaki, and barbeque!). Entomologists and other bug experts will be available for questions and more than 20 informational booths will teach and entertain children and adults alike. Sponsored by the County of San Diego Department of Agriculture Weights and Measures, Lloyd Pest Control, and the San Diego Botanic Garden.

Cost: Free for members and children 12 and under. Non-members free with admission
