Snow for kids at home

A fun Holiday event at your home and not too expensive is http://www.snowinseconds.com/?gclid=CO6Lu9-ktKwCFSgaQgodyHrtXga kit (around $25.)  that allows you to make snow. Watch their demo tape. There are also companies based in San Diego where you can rent the snow making machine for outdoors or indoors and is under $300. for the day. If you pickup the equipment you can save money on that too.

So if you have 5 plus Grand kids it is a pretty neat and inexpensive way to give them a San Diego Snow day for their holiday gift.

Follow up with gluten free cupcakes from BatterUp (based in Rancho Bernardo-858-676-2253 or email info@batterupcupcakes.com) http://batterupcupcakes.com/.

For an activity to fill their Holiday Day with Grandma/pa  gift mix up a batch of Finger Paints and have them put their painted hand on white paper, cut into a circle shape and then tacky glue them in a big circle to make a wreath to take home.

To make Finger Paint:

2 C. flour

2 tsp. salt

3 C. cold water

2 C. hot water

Drops of red and/or green food coloring.

Mix in a medium saucepan over med. heat, combine the flour and salt and add the cold water using a whisk and beat until smooth.

Add hot water and bring mixture to a boil, stirring until the paint is glossy. Remove from the heat and add drops of food coloring. Stir the mixture completely and add more food coloring if needed. Let the paint cool completely before using finger paints for your wreaths.

I recommend (since we are in San Diego) to have them paint outside on a patio table covered with news paper. Let the hand prints dry before cutting. Clean up the kids with a warm tub of soapy water that they can rinse their hands in with paper towels on the side.

Make the snow or run the snow machine (it makes a lot if you use the rental and it can be done indoors but it gets hard to breathe if the space is too small. They also have color wheels to add some extra fun.

Serve the cupcakes and drinks. By the time they are done go back outside to cut the hand prints  into a circle but draw a line around each print so the kids (use children’s scissors only) and make each child a large circle of colored paper and have them glue their prints around the circle’s edge.

So in my case I have 9 grandchildren and all but two live in San Diego so for me it is a one stop day to share as our gift to them. Plus the parents can do their holiday shopping while you have the kids.
